Canabrava Diamond (CNB-V) has defined three halos of kimberlite indicator minerals at its 100% owned Whitefish Lake project, near Wawa, Ont.
Indicator minerals including pyrope garnet, fresh olivine and ilmenite were identified during a stream sediment sampling program completed in the summer. According to Canabrava, the presence of fresh olivine suggests that kimberlite sources could be found near the sample locations. However, it’s not clear if each of the mineral indicator haloes is associated with a single kimberlite or a cluster.
Processing of the samples, including microprobe analysis, continues.
Priorities for follow-up work at the 80,000-ha property will be set once microprobe data are available.
Previous sampling in the area by the Ontario Geological Survey identified anomalous kimberlite indicator minerals with chemistries commonly associated with diamondiferous sources.
Canabrava is 52% owned by Southwestern Gold ((SWG-T).
