An 11,000-ft. diamond-drilling program is set to begin at Tandem Resources’ (TDM-T) unusual ruby-
diamond discovery in Guibord Twp., situated east of Matheson, Ont.
On the G-1 discovery pipe, a 20-ton sample will be extracted using P-sized core (about 3.3 inches in diameter).
A second drill rig using B-sized core (about 1.5 inches diameter) will investigate eight magnetic anomalies, which may be more kimberlite pipes surrounding the G-1 pipe. The largest two anomalies are about 10 acres and 7 acres in extent.
The original 190-lb. sample contained 1,790 rubies and three microdiamonds, with most of the rubies believed to be of good or gem quality, with a color similar to rubies from Thailand and East Africa. Forty rubies are macros, beween 0.8 and 2 mm in diameter.
Tandem can earn an 80% interest in the property from Homestake Mining (HM-Nhm-n) by spending $2 million on exploration by 2000.
