Hymex Diamond (HMD-V) now has a kimberlite washplant on site at its diamond property in Guinea, West Africa.
The washplant is expected to be available for trial runs, processing kimberlitic material by the end of October. Kimberlitic material for the plant will come from the Droujba kimberlite blow, a feature once mined by a Soviet aid mission and which is expected to produce diamonds down to 100 metres.
In August, Hymex recovered 5,120 stones weighing a total of 3,146 carats from its Guinea property — representing a 460% increase in production over August 1996.
Of the stones recovered, 653 were in excess of 1 carat in size. Also recovered were six larger stones, weighing 11.45, 13.37, 14.22, 14.84, 17.67 and 20.2 carats. None of the diamonds have been appraised.
The company has also outlined 53 magnetic anomalies from 5,630 line km of magnetic and radiometric airborne surveying conducted earlier this year.
Resistivity surveys will continue on all 53 identified anomalies.
