Diamond Trading Co. (DTC), the distribution arm of De Beers’ has announced changes to its distribution plan.
DTC, which is the world’s largest suppliers of diamonds, announced that 75 of its clients — including six new ones — will be offered supply through the company’s London and Southern African operations.
In an effort to better distribute the diamonds globally, DTC will now sell through new independent joint-venture operations — in Botswana and Namibia. Up until now, DTC sold rough diamonds exclusively through DTC London.
“We are successfully implementing a new commercial strategy,” said managing director of the DTC, Varda Shine, in a statement. “This involves restructuring our operations to help meet the wider economic goals of producer governments as well as providing our clients with the world’s best source of supply, supported by industry- leading intellectual property.”
The supply contracts — which are awarded by De Beers to select applicants — are for the period of March 31, 2008 to March 30, 2011.
