Dome budgets $2 million for Snoppy Lake project

A drill-indicated mineral inventory of 2.2 million tons grading 0.24 oz gold per ton has been established by Dome Exploration in two zones on the Snoppy Lake property north of Pickle Lake, Ont.

Dome, acting as operator for the Musselwhite Grubstake, completed about 75,000 ft of diamond drilling in the area during 1986. Dome and its partners have now approved a further $2-million expenditure in 1987 for surface drilling to expand the reserves.

Three drills will begin a 42,000-ft drilling program in January. A decision regarding a 1987 underground exploration program will likely be made early in 1987.

Dome and its partners previously went underground in 1984 on a property about 2.5 miles west of the Snoppy Lake discovery. Results there didn’t meet expectations and a production decision was never taken.

The Snoppy Lake discovery has been described as a steeply dipping but shallow plunging zone outlined for 4,300 ft along strike with true widths estimated at 11-12 ft.

Dome has a 35% interest in the project. Its partners are Esso Minerals Canada with 24%, Inco with 24% and Lacana Mining with 17%.
