Drilling progressing at Norbeau property

Two holes of a planned 6-hole surface diamond drilling program have been completed by Norbeau Mines on its property at Chibougamau, Que.

The first hole, located 850 ft east- northeast of the old Norbeau mine shaft was completed at a depth of 1,916 ft before Christmas. The second vertical hole, 70 ft east of the first hole, has recently been completed at a depth of 1,938 ft.

Four vein zones were intersected in each hole. Assays and check assays have been completed on the first hole deomonstrating anomalous gold in three of the zones. Initial assays on the first two zones in the second hole also indicate gold.

The first and fourth intersections in each hole are interpreted as the depth projects of the Main vein and the No. 4 vein, respectively, of the old Norbeau Mine which was mined from 1964 to 1969 producing 419,000 tons at a grade of 0.4 oz gold per ton.

The second intersection in each hole is apparently a new zone which has increased substantially in width and grade from the first to the second hole. While the attitude and true thickness of this zone cannot yet by determined its discovery is regarded as encouraging, the company says.

The third hole is now being collared 100 ft futher east of the second hole. A total of six deep holes are to be drilled form surface all designed to test the continuity of the Main and No 4 veins below the 1,000 ft level.

Initial assays to date are:
