Diamond drilling beyond the current ore reserve outline (910,000 tons, mineable, grading 0.22 oz gold and 0.30% copper per ton) has been stepped up on surface and underground at Meston Lake’s Joe Mann mine, in Chibougamau, Que.

In the surface drilling program, which started in March, 13 holes have been completed for a total of 19,360 ft. Work has been concentrated east of of the mining concession and shaft, beyond the present ore reserve outline. Meston says there is excellent potential for a substantial increase in reserves when the area is opened up and detailed.

The Joe Mann mine began production April 2 at 700 tons per day. At that rate, the mine life is estimated to be 5-6 years. (N.M., June 1/87).
