Earnings Report (September 04, 1989)

Cambior Inc. (TSE) reported net earnings for the three months ended June 30 of $5.24 million or 22 cents per share on revenues of $30.24 million. In the same period last year earnings were $2.74 million, 12 cents per share on revenue of $29.38 million.

The figures raise Cambior’s first- half earnings to $10.01 million or 42 cents per share compared with $6.35 million or 27 cents per share last year. Revenues in the first half were $56.08 million versus $56.06 last year.

Teck Corp. (TSE) recorded a net earning of $25 million or 31 cents per share in the quarter ended June 30. In the same quarter of last year Teck’s earnings were $20.9 million or 26 cents per share. Revenue was up to $79 million from $60 million.

Cash flow for the quarter was $24 million or 33 cents per share compared with $27 million or 35 cents per share a year ago.

The figures bring Teck’s 6-month earnings to $50.4 million or 62 cents per share compared with $35.4 million last year or 44 cents per share. Revenue for the first two quarters was $157 million, up from $117 million.

Regal Goldfields (COATS) posted net earnings of $92,418 in the first half, compared with $6,233 a year earlier.

Magma Copper (AMEX) reported a second-quarter profit of $13 million or 32 cents per share compared with $11.7 million or 31 cents per share in the same period last year. Revenue was $162.9 million compared with $133.4 million last year.

First-half earnings were $35.8 million or 88 cents per share versus $28.5 million or 75 cents per share in the same period last year.

Galactic Resources (TSE) posted a first-half profit of $451,000 or 1 cents per share on revenues of $23.01 million. In the same period last year, Galactic lost $3.26 million, 11 cents per share, on revenues of $9.17 million.

Minnova Inc. (TSE) had a net loss of $477,000 or 3 cents per share in the first six months. Sales of zinc, gold, copper and silver brought in $35.67 million after treatment and refining charges. In the same period last year Minnova earned $1.33 million, 9 cents per share, on $46.87 million of sales.

Belmoral Mines (TSE) reported a net loss in the second quarter of $1.99 million or 5 cents per share compared with a profit of $1.55 million or 4 cents per share in the same period last year. Belmoral’s first-half loss was $6.02 million or 15 cents per share on revenues of $11.73 million. In the first half of 1988, Belmoral earned $3.81 million or 10 cents per share on revenues of $15.48 million. The 1988 figures include a $1.33 million item for income reduction.
