Toronto-based Eastmain Resources (er-t) is gearing up to explore 65,000 ha of the Eastmain greenstone belt, which is situated 800 km northwest of Montreal, Que.
At the Lac Hudson gold prospect, Eastmain and its Ottawa-based partner, Orezone Resources (orz-m), are conducting a 17-hole, 1,500-metre drill campaign on a 7-km-long sulphide-bearing iron formation.
Meanwhile, at the Lac Elmer gold and base metal prospect, Eastmain and Barrick Gold (abx-t) have begun an induced-polarization and magnetic survey comprising 90 line km.
A similar geophysical survey is under way at Eastmain’s wholly owned Reservoir prospect. That survey covers the 700-metre-long Bear Island gold showing, grab samples from which returned up to 7.47 grams gold per tonne and 8% copper.
Also at Reservoir, Eastmain will begin a 2,500-metre drill program so as to test a copper-gold bearing porphyry. The C-52 zone, which is 4.5 km east of the Bear Island showing, has been traced for 1,600 metres.
In June, at the Clearwater gold prospect, Eastmain and provincially owned partner Soquem will begin a $600,000 stripping and trenching program on targets defined by geochemical sampling. The sampling program, carried out in 1996, outlined a gold-in-soil anomaly measuring 1,000 metres long by 300 metres wide.
In August, the partners plan to drill the Eau Claire gold deposit, as well as other geochemical anomalies.
