Editorial Duncan R. Derry

With the passing this week of Duncan Derry, this country has lost a highly respected ambassador of Canadian economic geology — the very engine that powers this mining industry of ours. Certainly his contributions to mineral exploration were many, with international impact.

Among his special qualities were his humanity, integrity and wisdo m. But most of all, perhaps, was his logic — plain common sense. He was never one to get carried away with reams of theory and geological gobbledygook. And he was a pretty sharp economist, too — what we like to think of as a “bottom line” geologist.

Yes, we at The Northern Miner knew him well and held him in high reg ard, for there was no double talk in his vocabulary. He always called a spade a spade. We will miss him, as will large segments of the Canadian and international fraternity.
