The National Mining Hall of Fame will honor eight leaders in the American mining industry at its eighth annual banquet.
Of the eight inductees, three are still living: Dr. Frederick Hauck (age 101), Sir Ian MacGregor (83) and Lowell Merfeld (75). The other inductees include Charles Brinckerhoff (1901-1987), Henry Ferguson (1882-1966), George Love (1900-1980), Dr. Charles Park, Jr. (1903-1990) and Forbes Wilson (1910-1990).
The banquet will be held Sept. 24 at the Westin Hotel Tabor Center in Denver. The master of ceremonies will be Milton Ward, chairman of Cyprus Amax Minerals. John Coulter, retired vice-president of Phelps Dodge, will be the keynote speaker.
The Hall of Fame recently completed renovations at its museum in Leadville, Colo.
