Vancouver-listed partners Emerald Isle Resources (VSE) and Stralak Resources (VSE) have begun exploring a garnet property northeast of Sudbury, Ont.
Previous work on the Street Twp. joint venture outlined a band of almandine garnet-bearing gneiss with a strike length of 8,000 ft.
Current work consists of mapping, road construction and upgrading, diamond drilling, bulk sampling and metallurgical tests. The objectives are to delineate reserves and investigate the mineral’s suitability for use as an abrasive in waterjet cutting.
To date, three holes totaling 410 ft. have been drilled, and these indicate the garnet zone varies in width from 40 to 80 ft., with a length of 1,000 ft. Based on visual examination, the footwall and hangingwall contain about 10-25% garnet, rising to 40-60% in the central core.
Bulk sampling and metallurgical work are expected to begin shortly. To finance the exploration, both companies completed private placements of 518,000 flow-through shares and 95,000 non-flow-through shares at 50 cents each.
