ENERPAC’S POWER WRENCHES

Enerpac’s trademarked Plarad line of hydraulic power wrenches is now available through a worldwide network of dealers.

Plarad has two system types: the low profile UKS system for work in tight areas or where applications are varied and wide ranging, and the compact, lightweight and easy to handle LT system. The LT tools use standard impact sockets or a variety of spline drive sockets and hex cap screw drives.

Each UKS drive unit handles several ratchets and each ratchet accepts many different hex inserts, sockets and hex cap screw drives.

Haulplan

One of the largest costs of open pit mining is haulage. Operators have always to ask themselves whether they should use quarry trucks, belt conveyors or some combination.

Creative Engineering Co. has created a PC computer program, Haulplan, which compares the cost of truck and belt haulage systems performing the same job, moving the same tonnage, within the same time frame and recognizes that work schedules, often dependent on weather, may be more restrictive to one method or the other.

Haulplan provides for the entry of 49 variables. Each input variable can be changed individually to determine its effect on cost and profit. New output results are calculated and displayed in seconds.

New improved Cat

The Caterpillar 95-ton- (86.2-tonne)-capacity 777C truck introduces new electronic engine and powertrain controls, and improved powertrain components and cab for increased reliability and total productivity.

A new electronically controlled Cat 3508 diesel engine delivers 920 gross Hp and 870 flywheel Hp. Electronic fuel injection and control module replace the mechanical system.

Two-piece pistons and new turbochargers proven on the Cat 789 give greater efficiency. These improvements extend engine life, reduce exhaust and increase fuel efficiency.

New family member

The Stratalogger II is the latest addition to Thunderbird Pacific’s family of instruments for the drilling industry. It replaces the original Stratalogger introduced in 1984.

This latest generation datalogger is installed on production or exploration drills and connected to the Drilling Efficiency Indicator (DEI). It records all the DEI information as well as data input from the operator.

The reporting software, which provides details on drilling production, operator performance, drill bit statistics, and individual hole geology, has been completely rewritten.

Soot trap

Engelhard Corp. has developed a self-cleaning DPX diesel-exhaust soot trap with a new electric regeneration package.

Electric regeneration cleans soot traps on diesel equipment with duty-cycle exhaust temperatures below 375deg. The original units used a catalyst to burn the trapped soot, but it was effective only at temperatures above 375deg.

Dust containment

Chemstar Lime Co. has added the trademark Poz-o-Cap dust control system to its lime-based products. The product combines with water to form an interlocking material that is sprayed over the designated area to create a high-integrity surface coating.

“With a single application lasting more than six months, it is more cost effective and durable than any other dust control technique,” said a Chemstar press release. Because it is water-permeable, it controls erosion.

Flow Measurement

The “Ibeo Volumat,” sold by Bytown Marine Ltd., accurately measures volume flow of bulk product conveyor systems. It is also self-calibrating and can detect foreign objects in the stream.

The system employs advanced laser profile measurement technology and has been successfully applied in the harshest of mining environments, the company says.
