Etruscan on track at Samira

Shareholders of Etruscan Resources (EET-T) continue to receive heartening news from a feasibility study at the Samira gold project in Niger.

Infill drilling continues to intersect long intervals of gold-bearing mineralization, as the independent study progresses ahead of schedule.

The latest results from the Main zone include:

  • hole 121, which intersected 46.5 metres (starting from surface) averaging 6 grams gold per tonne, including 11.39 grams over 21 metres;
  • hole 127, which hit 86 metres (from 70 to 156 metres) averaging 3.5 grams, including 5.98 grams over the final 37.2 metres; and
  • hole 116, which returned 1.63 grams over 40.5 metres (from 41.5 to 82 metres).

All three holes were cored, the first two having been collared near the zone’s centre, and the last, near its eastern limb.

Drilling in the Long Tom South area, along strike and immediately west of the Main zone, is progressing. Recent results have varied from 9.5 metres averaging 1.5 grams to 57.9 metres of 1.22 grams.

Mineralization remains open to the west.

“We clearly anticipate a significant increase in ounces at Samira as a result of the these high-grade intercepts and the new developments at Long Tom South,” says Etruscan Chairman Gerald McConnell.

Previous calculations pegged Samira’s resource at 27.8 million tonnes averaging 2.02 grams gold, spread over 800 metres of strike length and to a depth of 200 metres. The Main zone accounts for 300 metres of that strike length and has been intersected 50 metres deeper.

Two geotechnical core holes will be drilled to investigate slope stability in the hangingwall, and several reverse-circulation holes will test for potential sources of ground water.

Production is anticipated to begin in the fourth quarter of 1999 (T.N.M., Nov. 30-Dec.6/98).

Meanwhile, Etruscan is engaged in discussions to form a joint venture with a subsidiary of South Africa’s Anglo America (ANGLY-Q). The discussions are no longer considering the inclusion of any property outside of Niger.
