Expert inspects Seahawk find

Seahawk Minerals (SKM-V) has commissioned an expert to examine two walnut-size stones recovered from drill core at the Piteiras project in eastern Brazil. Each weighs about 75 carats.

The 3,900-metre drill program is aimed at expanding the emerald-bearing Coqueiro zone, a 2.8-metre-thick interval of phlogopite schist.

The company plans to build an underground mine at a cost of $4.6 million. The work will entail sinking a 182-metre shaft to the Coqueiro target.

The emerald expert’s report is expected by the end of January.

Seahawk owns a 70% interest in the 312.6-ha property, with the remainder held by a Brazilian company. Situated 110 km east of Belo Horizonte in Minas Gerais state, the Piteiras project is sandwiched between the Capoeirana and Belmont emerald mines.
