EXPLORATION 1999 — Independence discovers zone

Encouraged by results from sampling, Independence Resources (IND-V) plans to drill a newly discovered gold-silver zone at its El Escobar project in Mexico’s Durango state.

The company’s geologists discovered an area of high gold and silver values in shear zones and quartz veins striking east-northeast and measuring about 1 km long and 200 metres wide. Widespread hematitic alteration was noted, along with intense, multiple-phase silicification, quartz-barite veining with boxworks, and a strong argillic halo around the veins.

Ten rock samples, collected from outcrops, old prospect pits and adits, averaged 5.3 grams gold and 120 grams silver per tonne. The highest silver value was 398 grams, whereas the highest gold value was 12.7 grams.

A sample taken from a quartz vein 1.2 km along strike returned 0.12 gram gold and 737 grams silver.

El Escobar is accessible by road. Soil sampling, detailed mapping and trenching are under way in preparation for drilling in late March.
