EXPLORATION ’87 CAMBIOR

About $15 million will be spent by Cambior Inc. this year, exploring for mineable gold deposits in northwestern Quebec and an additional $13 million has been committed by the company’s various joint venture partners. Of Cambior’s budget, about $9 million will be spent on surface work, the balance going to underground work. Almost half of the work on surface ($4.2 million) will be done in the Rouyn-Noranda area.

The other major exploration area for Cambior is near the town of Val d’Or. The main project here is the Dunraine property, where some $600,000 will be spent this year. About $700,000 will go to the Bloc Sud property, $550,000 to the Pascalis property and $500,000 to the Nova ground.

The company also intends to spend $900,000 on grassroots work in the Casa Berardi area and $1 million in the Cadillac area. Cambior has about 20 exploration employees, a number which doubles during the field season.
