EXPLORATION ’87 HUDSON BAY

Hudson Bay Exploration & Development, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting, will be exploring for base metals in 1987. These activities will be confined to Manitoba and Saskatchewan within the Flin Flon-Snow Lake greenstone belt. Gold exploration will be carried out by newly formed companies — subsidiaries of Inspiration Resources, the parent company of Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting.

Hudson Bay’s budget has been set at $5.7 million for surface exploration, primarily on a search for copper- zinc ore to supply the Flin Flon metallurgical plant. The program will consist of diamond drilling on geophysical anomalies and known mineralized zones. Extensive ground geophysical surveys will also be carried out. A small portion of the budget will again be contributed by provincial Crown corporations in joint venture with Hudson Bay.

Underground exploration will also be done in Hudson Bay’s mines in the Flin Flon-Snow Lake area. About $1.8 million has been budgeted with particular emphasis on the Chisel Lake mine in the Snow Lake area.

An exploration office is maintained at Flin Flon, Man.
