EXPLORATION ’99 – Eastmain, Bubbee expand holdings

Among the companies hoping to revive New Brunswick’s mining industry are Eastmain Resources (ER-T) and unlisted Bubbee Ventures. The companies recently acquired additional claims in the area to cover a large, untested airborne magnetic anomaly.

The newly expanded Tingley Brook project is in the Bathurst camp, which hosts the Brunswick mine, Noranda’s largest producer of zinc and lead concentrate.

The partners recently completed nine holes totalling 1,825 metres at Tingley Brook. Four of these holes hit altered and mineralized rocks comparable to those that host the Brunswick mine horizon. One of the holes also intersected iron formation, which is known to mark the base metal horizon in the Bathurst camp.

The companies acquired their additional claims based on reinterpretation of government airborne data, which detected a strong magnetic anomaly that has never been tested. The anomaly is described as being “comparable in size, shape and intensity to the 21-million-tonne B zone base metal mine at Heath Steele.”

The anomaly is interpreted to be about 400 metres below surface. A smaller isolated magnetic anomaly (believed to be within 150 metres of surface) was identified south of the large, deep target. A followup program of surface geophysical surveys will attempt to confirm the location of these untested magnetic targets.

The partners also note that the same rocks hosting the giant Brunswick No. 12 deposit underlie their magnetic anomalies.
