Exploration continues at Stenpad

The exploration program at the Stenpad concession in Ghana is continuing following a technical audit that concluded earlier trench sample assays were “unreliable.”

Golden Rule Resources (gnu-t) and Hixon Gold Resources (hxg-v) have completed at least six more holes on the Agyakra gold prospect, which had yielded the assays that created heavy speculation in shares of both companies early in 1997. Trenches at Agyakra are also being resampled, using new procedures recommended by the joint venture’s consultants, Associated Mining Consultants.

Re-sampling by the Minerals Commission of Ghana returned lower results and raised suspicions of tampering (T.N.M., May 26/97).

In a report to the companies, which Hixon provided to the Vancouver Stock Exchange, the Calgary-based consulting firm recommended improved security for samples, sieving out rock chips, adding duplicates and other check samples to the batches submitted to the laboratories, and random re-sampling of the trenches.

The version of the report deposited in the VSE’s public file did not reproduce in full a section of the report dealing with the quality of the work done by two laboratories in Ghana. Associated recommended that regular check analyses should be run by laboratories outside Ghana, and that more check samples should be submitted along with the normal samples.

The companies have commissioned an independent geological evaluation.
