Exploration shaft in the works for Joubi property

A shaft-sinking contract, for a 250-m exploration shaft, on its Joubi property near Val d’Or, Que., will be let shortly, Western Quebec Mines reports.

A program of six holes totalling 1,242 m was completed during the first three months of this year, with uncut grades ranging from 1.4 g gold per tonne up to 8.3 g, at depths of 53 m on down to 184 m.

Western has an agreement with Oracle Exploration whereby Oracle may earn a 45% interest in the property by providing $6.2 million worth of exploration and development by July 15, 1988.

Regarding the Wesdome gold project, in which Western has a 30% interest, a program involving 4,455m of drilling in 10 holes was completed between January and March. Purpose of the program was to test, at greater depth, a number of gold-bearing intersections obtained previously on the south- central part of the property.

Dome Mines, with a 70% interest, is the operator of the Westdome project. A Dome subsidiary, Sigma Mines, undertook the drilling program. Some of the better results indicated uncut grades of 10.16 g (4.59 g cut) and 12.64 g.

Holes on the program were widely spaced. Further drilling is planned this summer.
