Falco, NAR drill targets in Zimbabwe — Program defines zone of massive sulphides

Drilling by partners Falconbridge (FL-T) and NAR Resources (NRL-M) at their Maramba project in northeastern Zimbabwe has defined a 4.5-km alteration zone containing significant copper-zinc-silver massive sulphide mineralization.

The 22-hole program has defined a sulphidic horizon consisting of a 20-to-80-metre-wide alteration zone that is at least 4.5 km long and open both to the west and east.

From west to east, highlights include:

* 1.2 metres (from 85 metres) grading 1.2% copper, 5.7% zinc and 19.8 grams silver per tonne in hole 19;

* 1.4 metres (from 75 metres) of 1.6% copper, 1.3% zinc and 33.4 grams silver in hole 14;

* 3.1 metres (from 75 metres) of 2.5% copper, 0.7% zinc and 52.5 grams silver in hole 3;

* 0.6 metre (from 85 metres) of 0.5% copper, 7.6% zinc and 9.7 grams silver in hole 10;

* 1.7 metres (from 75 metres) of 7.4% copper, 2.6% zinc and 120.8 grams silver in hole 12; and

* 0.6 metre (from 90 metres) of 4.8% copper, 0.9% zinc and 49.9 grams silver in hole 11.

The total strike length of the favorable volcanic terrain is 10 km, including two 1,500-metre anomalies east of the drilled portion.

Other undrilled targets are conductive zones that run parallel to the main alteration horizon. One of these zones, dubbed ZV-10, is 400 metres long and coincident with a copper-zinc soil anomaly. The next phase of drilling is expected to consist of 20,000 metres drilled in 75 holes, NAR says.

The junior is funding the current program, with Falconbridge acting as operator. Falco will remain as such until NAR has spent a minimum of US$4 million to earn a joint-venture interest, at which point operatorship will be determined by majority interest (T.N.M. Jan. 26/98).
