Falco plans suspension

The ongoing weakness in nickel markets, coupled with high oil prices, is forcing Falconbridge (FL-T) to suspend production at its 85%-owned nickel laterite mine in the Dominican Republic.

The gates will be closed for three months, starting in late October. During that time, nickel deliveries are expected to be 8,000 tonnes lighter. Maintenance work will be carried out across the site during the shutdown.
