Feds fund asbestos think tank

The federal government will provide $500,000 over two years to the Montreal-based Asbestos Institute, a non-profit organization that promotes the safe use of chrysotile asbestos.

Natural Resources Canada and Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) will each contribute $250,000.

The institute will use the money to promote the prevention and control of asbestos in brochures and training programs.

The money will also help implement the “responsible-use policy,” advocated by the federal government and Canadian asbestos producers.
