The Center for Advanced Mineral and Metallurgical Processing at the University of Montana will host a course on fire assaying.
The course, slated for Aug. 18-23 at the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, is designed to provide fundamental, laboratory and industrial training in fire assay.
There are two versions — one lasts 2.5 days; the other, 3.5 days. Topics include fundamentals of sampling and the application of fire assay to gold, silver and platinum group metals. The longer version features a tour of the Stillwater PGM complex.

Argentina showcases mining
Argentina Mining 2002, slated for Aug. 28-29 in the northern city of Mendoza, will feature technical papers covering topics such as exploration, mining services, Chile-Argentina cross-border co-operation, and environmental and social issues.

Precious metals seminar
The Silver Institute and Gold Fields Mineral Services will offer a seminar on precious metals Nov. 14-15 at the Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto.
Topics include global mining production, silver demand in superconductors, price forecasts, prospects for renewal of the Washington Gold Agreement, hedging, and the Chinese silver market.

Yukon chamber offers courses
The Yukon Chamber of Mines is offering courses in basic and advanced prospecting.
The basic course, scheduled for the fall, will introduce novice prospectors and students to the principles of geology and the identification and classification of minerals and rocks.
The advanced course is slated for next winter.
