First Majestic Silver (FR-V, FRMSF-O) has received resource estimates for two of its operating mines in Mexico — La Encantada in Coahuila state and La Parrilla in Durango.
The estimates both show increases to the resource base that the company hopes will justify production expansions at the two projects.
La Parrilla, which currently mines from underground at 700 tonnes per day, now has a proven and probable reserve of 403,000 tonnes grading 271 grams silver per tonne, with 0.2% lead and 0.13% zinc. A separate indicated resource amounts to 1.1 million tonnes with 358 grams silver and 0.17 gram gold per tonne, plus 1.37% lead and 0.81% zinc; another 4.1 million tonnes, with grades of 255 grams silver and 0.15 gram gold per tonne, plus 0.9% lead and 1.14% zinc, are inferred.
About two-thirds to three-quarters of the resources are in sulphide material, with the rest in oxide.
At La Encantada, there is now a reserve of 634,000 tonnes at grades of 403 grams silver per tonne, 1.93% lead and 0.72% zinc. Beyond the reserve, 1.4 million tonnes of indicated resources averages 276 grams silver, 1.72% lead and 0.99% zinc. An inferred resource makes up 1.5 million tonnes, at grades of 200 grams silver, 0.5% lead and 0.7% zinc.
First Majestic has six drills at La Parrilla and has plans to extend underground development at La Encantada, which saw 2.5 km of underground development in the first half of the year.
The company is also evaluating resources on the San Martin silver mine in northern Jalisco, where it received a resource calculation about a month ago (T.N.M., June 11-17/07).
