Fleming named TSE president

The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSE) has named Rowland Fleming as its new president and chief executive officer (CEO).

Fleming, 51, becomes the exchange’s 60th president in its 133-year history, succeeding Pearce Bunting who retires after 17 years at the end of this year. Fleming, a native of Dublin, has significant experience in the financial services area. He will leave his current job at National Trust, where he is deputy chairman, president and CEO.

Previously, he served as president and CEO of National Trustco, Premier Trust and Victoria and Grey Mortgage, and president and CEO of Dominion of Canada General Insurance Co.

From 1969 to 1990, he worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia, serving as executive vice-president, Canadian commercial and retail banking, for the 1986-90 period.

The chairman of the TSE, Canada’s largest stock market, is Fred Ketchen.
