BHP (NYSE: BHP; LSE: BHP; ASX: BHP) announced on Thursday that Don Lindsay, the former CEO of Teck Resources (TSX: TECK.A/TECK.B; NYSE: TECK), will join its board as a non-executive director.

The miner also announced the retirement of Ian Cockerill as a non-executive director, effective April 4. Cockerill was appointed CEO of Endeavour Mining (TSX: EDV; LSE: EDV) in January after its previous CEO Sebastien de Montessus was fired over an irregular payment he approved.

Lindsay led Teck for 17 years. After his retirement in 2022, he assumed the role of chairman at Manulife Financial, Canada’s largest insurance company.

“Don brings a strong focus on global resource development, growth and value creation, as well as community health, safety and education,” BHP chairman Ken MacKenzie said in a release. “We look forward to welcoming Don to the board on May 1.”

The news of Lindsay’s appointment comes shortly after the announcement of Ross McEwan, CEO of National Australia Bank, as a non-executive director effective April 3.
