Freightrain comes in for Twin

A 234-kg core sample derived from a hole collared between two earlier trenches on Twin Mining‘s (TWG-T) Freightrain pipe situated on the Jackson Inlet property at Baffin Island in Nunavut, has surrendered a total of 70 diamonds.

Two of the stones measure more than 2 mm in one dimension, with the largest 2.08 by 1.43 by 0.94 mm. Another two stones fall between 1 and 2 mm along their longest axis; six others are between 0.5 and 1 mm.

Twin says that the latest results not only confirm those of the earlier trenches, but also indicate an increase in the proportion of larger diamonds. Combined, the two previous trenches delivered 355 diamonds from 792 kg of material. Just two of the stones measure more than 2 mm in a single dimension.

Results from 14 other holes on the Freightrain pipe and two on the Cargo 1 pipe are still pending. Diamond extraction results from six mini-bulk samples totalling a dry weight of 228 tonnes are expected by the end of the month.

The Cargo 1 pipe is on the northern tip of Baffin Island, 4.2 km northeast of the Freightrain kimberlite. Freightrain is a much more complex body than Cargo 1, with large blocks or rafts of limestone lying within the kimberlite system.

Twin’s CEO Hermann Derbuch says, “We are very encouraged by the results of this drill hole which indicates the reproducibility of diamond results at depth and the fact that the two largest stones were recovered from sections of NQ core (47mm) located at depths of 45.8 metres and 79.2 metres respectively.”
