Gabriel enhances Rosia Montana

Drilling by Gabriel Resources (GBU-V) has expanded gold mineralization at the Rosia Montana project in Romania.

The company is pushing the drilling southwest of the main Cetate zone and says it is continuing to pick up ore-grade mineralization.

The drilling is being conducted on 80-metre centres on east-westerly trending lines, and results are expected to boost the known resource.

In November, Gabriel revised the tonnage and grade estimate for the Cetate zone to 16.2 million tonnes of 2 grams gold and 14 grams silver per tonne.

The estimate was based on 24 drill holes (totalling 3,754 metres), 6,121 metres of underground sampling, and a cutoff grade of 0.8 gram gold.

Gabriel has completed another 20 holes stretching from Cetate to the southwest, extending the main body of mineralization, including the Gauri zone, to a length of 800 metres. Mineralization, which is hosted in mixed breccias and rhyodacite intrusive rock, remains open to the southwest.

The company intends to incorporate the new drilling data into a revised resource estimate, scheduled for the new year. Underground drilling is also planned, as is further drilling at the Cirnic rhyodacite body, east of Cetate. Gabriel expects to have a preliminary resource for Cirnic by April.

The company has yet to explore the Jig-Vladoaia zone, north of Cirnic, or the Orlea zone, north of Cetate at Rosia Montana.

Gabriel controls 51% of the Rosia Montana property, situated in northwestern Romania, with the remainder held by Euro Gold Resources. While exploration continues at the property, the Romanian government is producing gold and silver from an open-pit mine.
