Gammon to head Mines Division

John Gammon has been appointed to the post of assistant deputy minister at the mines and minerals division of Ontario’s Ministry of Northern Development and Mines. The recent appointment was announced by Deputy Minister Brock Smith.

Gammon has already played a 0600,0000 pivotal role within the ministry through his involvement in drafting mineral policy and legislation, including the new Ontario Mining Act.

“He will continue to lead important policy developments in the years ahead,” said Smith.

Gammon originally joined the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines back in 1988 as director of the mineral development and lands branch. He later became involved in designing the Ontario Prospectors Assistance Program (OPAP), and the Ontario Mineral Incentive Program (OMIP).

He received his undergraduate degree in geology from the University of Leicester and his doctorate from the University of Durham. His employment background also includes working for New Jersey Zinc Company and for Falconbridge Ltd.
