A detailed mapping of gold deposits in the Matachewan-Kirkland Lake-Larder Lake area of Ontario, will be carried out by the province’s ministry of northern development and mines.
The gold mapping work will be done by Howard Lovell, former resident geologist in Kirkland Lake, who has been appointed regional staff geologist by the ministry for the mapping project.
The geology of the deposits in the area will be reviewed in the context of the regional structure and stratigraphy, with the objective of developing geological concepts to assist the exploration industry and prospectors in their search for new orebodies.
At Kirkland Lake, Gary Grabowski, staff geologist, has been appointed acting resident geologist, pending appointment of a new resident.
