The next meeting of the Toronto Geological Discussion Group will examine the merits of 3-D Quest, a technology designed to reduce risks associated with exploration drilling.
Robert Gordon, manager of geophysical services with Quantec Geoscience in Waterdown, Ont., and John McGaughey, president of Montreal-based Mira Geoscience, will lead the discussion, scheduled for Nov. 27 at the Ontario Club in downtown Toronto.
A few years ago, the oil industry developed a program called Gocad, which allowed companies to locate and drill specific targets using three-dimensional imaging. From this, 3-D Quest was developed.
Noranda and Barrick Gold, among other companies, are currently employing the technology.
This will be the group’s final meeting of 2001, and those attending will receive a Christmas beverage.
