Construction of a mobile biotankleach demonstration plant has been approved by the board of Giant Bay Resources. The company says advanced negotiations are under way with several mining companies which wish to install the plant.
The cost of construction is estimated at $1.2 million with work beginning in January and completion scheduled for next May. Plant capacity will be 5-10 tons of concentrate per day and the design of the facility will be based on a 100-ton-per-day plant proposed by Wright Engineers.
The plant will be fully mobile and will include a gold recovery circuit which can handle highly refractory sulphide ore. The purpose of the facility is to demonstrate to larger producers the on-site advantages of the biotankleach process before a full-scale plant is built.
Giant Bay says the plant can be used by small operators with limited reserves to treat their production, allowing them to produce dore bullion at the mine site.
