Vancouver — The results of recent drilling are expected to provide
The 20-hole program was aimed at upgrading existing inferred resources to the measured and indicated categories so as to meet the reporting standards specified in National Instrument 43-101. The assay results are being compiled by AMEC’s Saskatoon office, which is also updating an existing feasibility study to meet NI 43-101 standards.
The Box mine is part of GLR’s wholly owned Goldfields project, which also includes the Athona mine. The project was originally developed in 1939 by Cominco, which produced 64,000 oz. gold from 1.29 million tonnes. The mine, which used large underground stopes, ceased operations in 1942.
Over the years, several companies have explored the Goldfields project, with work focused mainly on the Box mine.
A 1995 feasibility study estimated inferred resources of 13.3 million tonnes grading 1.7 grams gold per tonne, or about 707,020 contained ounces. The historic estimate compares with a more recent inferred resource estimate by AMEC of 14.1 million tonnes grading 1.77 grams, or about 808,000 oz.
The Athona property is 1.5 km east of the Box mine. It hosts an inferred resource of 6.5 million tonnes grading 1.83 grams gold at a cutoff grade of 0.68 gram, based on the 1995 feasibility study.
GLR has carried out metallurgical studies that show that gold recoveries of 87% can be achieved using a low-cost gravity plant followed by in-line pressure leaching of the concentrate to recover the gold, with only trace cyanide going to the tails.
