Go-ahead is given for new gold mine in northern Ontario

The go-ahead has been given for Ontario’s latest gold mine.

At presstime, Dome Mines President Henry Brehaut told The Northern Miner that the Dona Lake orebody in the Pickle Lake area of the province, a joint venture with Campbell Red Lakes Mines, will be brought into production by the first quarter of 1989, at a capital cost of just over $40 million. It will produce 40,000 oz gold annually, to bring total gold production by the Dome Mines group companies to around 600,000 oz a year. (When the planned Dome-Campbell amalgamation with Placer Development is completed, that figure is estimated to reach over 1,000,000 oz by the end of the decade).

Mineral inventory at Dona Lake is around 1.9 million tons at a grade of 0.20 oz gold per ton.

Mr Brehaut said engineering, clearing for power lines, erection of headframe and hoist room will start soon.
