Gold Canyon finds more gallium sniffs at Cordero

Seven out of nine holes drilled by Gold Canyon Resources (GCU-V) on its Cordero project in Humboldt Cty., Nevada, have turned up gallium values in sulphide and oxide mineralization.

The best values were in hole C-15, drilled vertically near a structure called the M Fault Zone. A 7.6-metre core length, starting at about 15 metres from surface, ran 266 grams gallium per tonne. The hole is about 330 metres northeast of a previously drilled hole, C-6, which intersected 7.6 metres grading 224 grams gallium per tonne.

The gallium concentrations Gold Canyon reported from the other six holes were mainly in the 30- to 60-gram range. Two other holes had no significant mineralization.

Gallium is typically recovered as a by-product of aluminum and zinc production, from bauxite and sphalerite ores. Gallium grades in those settings are usually about 50 grams per tonne. There are currently no primary gallium producers.

Samples from eight other holes are still in the labs. Gold Canyon is also awaiting results of analyses for other elements, on samples from all 30 drill holes.
