Gordex adds to pit’s potential at Cape Spencer

Results from the first seven holes of a 29-hole drill program on Gordex Minerals’ Cape Spencer heap leach gold mine property in New Brunswick indicate good potential for increasing open pit ore reserves.

To date 21 holes have been completed since late October on the deposit area of the property. Results from the first seven holes include:

In conjunction with the drilling program of the deposit area, an extensive geoscience program conducted on the balance of the property indicates the probability of several major structures with good mineralization potential. Anomalies extend north and south from the present pit area with sulphide and gold mineralization potential indicated in these zones which, the company says, will see diamond drilling soon.

The company says its demonstration heap produced 1,800 oz of gold and 250 oz silver to the end of October.

Recovery on the first lift of ore was 79%, a good rate in a heap leaching operation where recoveries of 60-70% are average.

The company is planning to treat 100,000 tonnes in 1987 and 150,000 tonnes in 1988.
