GQ surrenders more diamonds

Six of seven heterolithic breccia outcrops on Band-Ore Resources‘ (BAN-T) GQ property, near Wawa, Ont., have returned diamonds.

The best results came from the Rainbow zone, where a 54-kg sample from a saw-cut channel surrendered 1,721 diamonds, including 21 macrodiamonds (that is, stones measuring at least 0.5 mm in one dimension). Most of the stones are white octahedrons.

Other macros were recovered from a 40.7-kg sample taken in are SE-F. The sample included 56 diamonds, including three macros. Samples from areas JR-27, New-B, D-E and JR-14 returned a total of 69 smaller diamonds. Results from areas New-B, D-E and JR-14 are partial, and results for several other channel samples are still pending.

Based on the latest results, Band-Ore plans to collect 10-to-30-tonne mini-bulk samples from each of the diamondiferous heterolithic breccia outcrops. Also, the company will continue mapping and sampling in these areas.

Earlier this summer, Band-Ore recovered two microdiamonds from one of three 10-kg samples derived from a 40-metre-long breccia zone along the western shore of the Magpie River. The two remaining samples came up empty.

The company also recovered 11 micros from a till-sampling program completed late last year.

The GQ property is home to hundreds of diamond-bearing heterolithic breccia showings. Chief among these is the Engagement zone, which has returned more than 12,000 micros and 340 macros from 406 kg of sample taken at various spots along its 335-metre length. The zone has an implied grade of 4.8 carats per 100 tonnes.

Kennecott Canada Exploration, the Canadian exploration arm of Rio Tinto (RTP-N) can earn a 70% stake in the property by spending $15 million on exploration over seven years and by completing and financing all work on the property prior to a production decision.

Band-Ore shares were trading 3 higher at 53 in mid-day trade in Toronto on Nov. 5.
