Hecla’s Lucky Friday sets safety record

Hecla Mining’s Lucky Friday mine reports that 1995 was its safest year in 56 years of operation.

The last time-loss accident in the silver-lead mine, near Mullan, Idaho, occurred Dec. 19, 1994, for a total of 376 days.

The operation has become increasingly safe since 1980, when 60 time-loss accidents were reported at the mine.

Currently, all Lucky Friday employees participate in safety courses twice a year, and a safety audit program was implemented at the beginning of 1995 to determine unsafe work habits and ways to correct them.
