Drilling has begun on the Tres Amigos zone of Golden Hemlock Explorations’ (GHE-V) wholly owned San Jose de Gracia project in western Mexico.
Infill drilling is testing the continuity of previously identified mineralization, while stepout drilling tests the 1.1-km strike potential. In total, the program will span about 6,000 metres.
About 2,000 metres of diamond drilling is planned for the Purisima Ridge and Prieta zones. Surface mapping, trenching and sampling programs are also under way.
The 3,500-ha project, perched in the Sierra Madre mountains within Sinaloa state, consists of 67 old adits and shafts. Tres Amigos is one of the only structures sufficiently developed for proven and probable reserves to be postulated; the figure stands at 96,300 tons grading 0.132 oz. gold and 0.78% copper, on a fully diluted basis.
The mountainous region is underlain by a Paleozoic sequence of marine sediments, including argillites, quartzites and limestones. These were overlain by an extrusive package of andesites and brecciated tuffs, which were subsequently intruded by stocks.
The geological history is characterized by extensive veining, stockworks and brecciation. Rehealing by secondary quartz and carbonate carrying pyrite with minor chalcopyrite and base metals also took place. Gold appears to follow sulphides.
