A mixture of high- and low-grade gold assays have been reported by partners Glimmer Resources (VSE) and Noranda (TSE) from recent follow-up drilling on their Beatty-Hislop joint venture near Matheson, Ont. The last five holes in this year’s program were drilled to follow up a new zone (No. 2) which was discovered this fall and returned a high- grade intersection of 22 grams gold over 7 metres in hole 40.
But, recent drilling failed to repeat the earlier wide interval of high-grade mineralization. Hole 42, drilled underneath hole 40, yielded a narrower 0.9-metre interval grading 20.5 grams gold per tonne. That hole also yielded 4.4 metres grading 5.8 grams. Stepout hole 43, drilled 50 metres away, returned 24.3 grams over a narrow 0.9-metre interval.
Highlights from the recently completed holes in zone no. 2 are as follows: From-To Width Cut Grade Hole (metre) (metre) (gram/tonne) 42 133.0-134.0 1.0 4.8 153.8-158.4 4.4 5.8 176.4-177.3 0.9 20.6 43 125.5-126.4 0.9 24.3 44 115.1-117.7 2.6 7.4 127.0-128.0 1.0 8.1 132.7-136.3 3.6 6.2 141.3-143.1 1.8 10.4 149.5-153.2 3.7 10.0 45 71.2-73.3 1.1 5.5 94.3-94.8 0.5 34.3 46 188.0-193.1 5.1 6.0
The new zone lies about 300 metres east of zone no. 1 which hosts preliminary reserves of 467,347 tonnes grading 10.8 grams gold. To date, drilling in zone no. 2 has outlined gold mineralization over a strike length of 200 metres and to a depth of 150 metres. Both zones are still open at depth.
Glimmer says a new phase of drilling is planned for next year on the Beatty-Hislop claims. The company’s Barnet Twp. property was recently returned by Placer Dome (TSE) which dropped its option following a $200,000 work program.
