ICI pioneers blasting system

A new approach to blasting has led to a 25% increase in productivity, ICI Explosives Canada says.

The company’s Underground Bulk Systems essentially provides a method for transporting new bulk explosives directly to the blasting site, eliminating the necessity for the costly and time-consuming task of manually carrying individually packaged explosives.

“Mining today is becoming a high-tech industry,” says Donald Sharabura, ICI’s general manager. “More and more, we are relying on computerized planning and analysis to provide specifications and simulate results.”

He says the new approach allows for the introduction of computerized systems for the delivery of underground explosives and that these systems reduce both risks and production costs.
