Production at Inco’s (TSE) operations in Sudbury, Ont., and Thompson, Man., have resumed after a period of cutbacks.
The Sudbury mines were closed for eight weeks whereas, at Thompson, operations were suspended for four and then reactivated on a curtailed basis. In other news Inco is laying off 1,000 workers worldwide. About 600 hourly and staff people will be laid off in Ontario and 200 in Manitoba. Both divisions will be closed for a 4-week vacation period this summer.
