INSIDER TRADING — Barrick officer doubles his money

John Lill, senior vice-president of American Barrick Resources (TSE), recently cashed in on the senior gold producer’s market success by selling 5,000 shares for $35.25 each after exercising the same number of options for $15.06 each.

Barrick has been trading above $37 per share recently, compared to a 52-week low of $24, with investors reacting to encouraging developments at the Goldstrike mine in Nevada and bullish sentiments about the gold price. Lill continues to hold 500 shares and 125,000 options.

Bitech (ASE) — James Wade, president, sold 60,000 shares for 11-15 cents to hold 2.94 million indirectly.

Champion Gold Resources (ASE) — Larry Melnick, president, sold 44,500 shares for 30-35 cents to hold 1.87 million.

Coral Gold (VSE) — Levon Resources, insider, sold 17,500 shares for 73-79 cents to hold 78,715.

Deak Resources (TSE) — MacDonald Mines Exploration (CDN), holder of more than 10%, sold 100,000 for 31 cents to hold 762,215.

Kemano Gold (ASE) — Jan Alston, president, bought 100,000 privately for 10 cents to hold 261,000.

Placer Dome (TSE) — Peter Crossgrove, director, bought 100,000 for $12.88 to hold 100,000.

Prime Equities International (VSE) — Leslie MacConnell, director, sold 12,000 for $3.47 to hold 8,000.

Rhonda Mining (ASE) — Dorian Trust, holder of more than 10%, sold 25,000 privately for $4 to hold 675,000. Savanna Resources (ASE), holder of more than 10%, bought 100,000 privately for $4 and 48,300 on the market for $4.05-4.25 to hold 2.07 million.

Tyranex Gold (CDN) — Gregory Bailey, director, bought 57,600 privately for 25 cents to hold 190,600.

Westmin Resources (TSE) — Ross Mitchell, vice-president of finance, bought 10,000 for $3.60 and sold 15,000 for $5.37 to hold none.
