INSIDER TRADING — Cambiex execs buy up shares

According to insider trading reports published by the Ontario Securities Commission, three executives of Cambiex Exploration (CBX-T) increased their holdings in that company during the summer.

Between June and August, David Fennell, director, bought 1.16 million shares indirectly at 28-40 cents each and received 175,002 shares indirectly as compensation for services to hold 5.06 million shares indirectly, or about 16% of the company; Comme Carbonneau, director, bought 11,112 shares at 36 cents to hold that many; Marc Dagenais, officer, bought 8,334 shares at 36 cents to hold that many; and Jean Boissonnault, executive of a company holding more than 10% of Cambiex, bought 41,670 shares at 36 cents to hold that many.

Other transactions reported in the OSC Bulletin include the following:

  • Afriore (AFO-V) — Harvey White, deemed an insider, bought 18,500 shares at 76-85 cents and sold 22,000 shares at 76-79 cents to hold 419,863 shares.
  • Barrick Gold (ABX-T) — Charles Birchall, director, sold 50,000 shares at US$20-20.63 to hold 65,000 shares; Edward Ney, director, exercised 100,000 options at $19.31 and sold the resulting shares at US$18.38 to hold no options and 3,000 shares; Alexander Davidson, officer, exercised 5,000 options at $22.55 and sold the shares at $28.75 to hold 285,000 options and no shares; and Kenneth Thomas, officer, exercised 15,000 options at $22.55 and sold the shares at $26.90 to hold 205,000 options and no shares.
  • Gammon Lake Resources (GAML-C) — Daren Baxter, director, exercised 125,000 warrants at 30 cents and sold 33,818 shares privately at $2.20 to hold no warrants and 131,182 shares.
  • Northfield Minerals (NFM-T) — Thomas Larsen, director, bought 51,500 shares at 44-48 cents and sold 58,500 shares at 42-55 cents to hold 302,747 shares; and Francis Sauve, director, bought 3,000 shares at 38 cents and sold 3,000 shares at 99 cents to hold 67,400 shares.
  • Twin Gold (TWG-T) — Hermann Derbuch, director, bought 12,500 shares at $1.75-2.04 to hold 693,268 shares.
  • Viceroy Resources (VOY-T) — The company repurchased 50,000 shares at $1.20-1.35 to hold 2.02 million shares.
  • Wheaton River Minerals (WRM-T) — Kerry Knoll, director, bought 50,000 shares privately at 20 cents and sold 50,000 shares at 20 cents to hold 634,757 shares; Ian McDonald, director, bought 200,000 shares privately at 20 cents and sold 20,000 shares at 20 cents to hold 834,757 shares; Derek Price, officer, bought 100,000 shares in a private placement at 20 cents and sold 52,000 shares at 21-23 cents to hold 208,000 shares; Dunham Craig, officer, bought 50,000 shares in a private placement at 20 cents to hold 80,000 shares; Peter Tredger, officer, bought 50,000 shares in a private placement at 20 cents to hold 204,756 shares; and the company canceled 190,500 shares that were bought previously and repurchased another 731,500 shares at 20 cents to hold that many.

    Meanwhile, recent insider trading south of the border includes the following:

  • Stillwater Mining (SWC-X) — Michael Shea, officer, bought 1,000 shares at US$22.38 to hold 1,000 shares.
  • Royal Gold (RGLD-Q) — Stanley Dempsey, director, indirectly gave away 1,250 shares as a gift to hold 556,399 shares in total.
  • Hanover Gold (HVGO-O) — Hobart Teneff, officer, bought 121,429 shares at US7-10 cents to hold 1.37 million shares; Neal Degerstrom, director, bought 121,429 shares at US7-10 cents to hold 2.38 million shares; and James Fish, director, bought 50,000 shares at US10 cents to hold 88,286 shares.
  • Gold Standard (GSTD-O) — FCMI Financial, owner of more than 10%, sold 16,000 shares at US$3.13-3.25 to hold 105,218 shares.
  • U.S. Energy (USEG-Q) — Daniel Svilar, owner of more than 10%, gave away 1,000 shares as a gift to hold a total of 994,341 shares.
