INSIDER TRADING — Slack stocks up on Deak shares

Malcolm Slack, chairman of Deak Resources (TSE), recently increased his interest in the junior producer by buying 400,000 shares privately for 29 cents to hold 531,700.

A $3-million underground exploration program, financed by Cyprus Canada, is under way on Deak’s Kerr mine property near Virginiatown, Ont. Deak has also secured a new source of feed for its Kerr mill by optioning the Astoria gold mine in northwestern Quebec and has proposed an amalgamation with Nova-Cogesco Resources, a Quebec junior with $5 million in cash. Other transactions completed recently include:

Equinox Resources (TSE) — Ross Beaty, president, exercised an option to sell 10,000 for $1.45 to hold 290,000.

Goldbelt Resources (VSE) — Douglas McRae, president and chief executive officer, bought 35,000 for 84 cents and sold 72,000 for 86 cents to hold 359,185.

Golden Star Resources (TSE) — Robert Friedland, director, bought 193,077 privately for $1.66 and sold 105,498 for $3.29 to hold 1.97 million directly and indirectly.

Moneta Porcupine Mines (TSE) — John Larche, director, bought 2.97 million shares and $487,805 in debentures privately to hold 5.2 million shares and $654,472 in debentures.

Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan (TSE) — John Hampton, vice-president, exercised options on 3,000 for $14.63 and sold 3,000 for $25.63 to hold 13,250 options. Windarra Minerals (TSE) — Donald Fraser, vice-president, bought 44,000 for 23-32 cents to hold 507,052.
