Island in full production

The Island gold mine near Dubreuilville, Ont., has moved into commercial production after producing 7,200 oz. gold from development ore in the third quarter of 2007.

Operator Richmont Mines (RIC-T, RIC-X), which holds 55% of the project, and Patricia Mining (PAT-V), which holds the rest, declared commercial production at the beginning of October, and expect to meet the mine’s design capacity — 675 tonnes of ore per day — in early 2008.

To the end of September, Island had produced 23,000 oz. gold out of development ore and some material from production stopes. The mine has a reserve of 1 million tonnes grading 8.6 grams gold per tonne.
