Persistence has paid off for one junior exploration company in western Quebec. Initial development of the Aubelle deposit by JAG Mines (ME) has yielded 1,300 tonnes of development ore.
After processing at Aur Resources’ (TSE) Aurbel mill in Val d’Or, just over 4,900 grams gold and 3,250 grams silver were produced.
JAG purchased the property, about 100 km south of Rouyn, in 1983 and has slowly built up a mineral inventory on Aubelle. Underground development had been accomplished on three levels by 1994, when measured, indicated and possible reserves stood at 353,700 tonnes grading 4.2 grams gold per tonne. The results of milling the development ore confirm the expected grade.
Scouring and drilling at the Aubelle 2 vein system, about 400 metres south of the Aubelle 1, have outlined a mineralized zone apparently persisting 200 metres along strike and 190 metres vertically. Two surface grab samples had very high gold and silver concentrations.
Underground development will continue, and JAG plans drilling on both Aubelle veins.
The Belleterre mine, also on the property, was an active mine from 1936 to 1959, producing 723,384 oz. gold from a vein system.
