Joe Mann output in sharp decline

Production at the Joe Mann gold mine near Chibougamau, Que., dropped sharply, and operating costs rose significantly, during the first half of the year.

Campbell Resources (TSE) reports output of 27,200 oz. during the period, compared with 41,600 oz. for the same period in 1992. It attributes the drop to lagging mine development over the past two years.

However, the company expects production will increase for the remainder of the year as a result of mine development being accelerated.

Operating costs averaged US$356 per oz. for the period, compared with US$272 last year.

Campbell recently lost its controlling shareholder when Northgate Exploration sold its 35% interest in the producer. John Kachmar remains president of Campbell but has resigned as president of Northgate.
